Benefits of Ozone Therapy

Ozone is among the most misunderstood elements. It is often mistakenly referred to as a pollutant, and many people think it is unhealthy. In fact, the opposite is true. Ozone is a variation of oxygen, which has many therapeutic uses. Its benefits have been researched and documented extensively.

There also appears to be a healing reaction initiated by the body upon exposure to ozone. This will prove to be a very useful medicine to be used in many different situations by dentists.

Why ozone?

Ozone is a natural substance, which can often take the place of caustic chemicals and invasive techniques.

The Procedure

How We Use Ozone Therapy for Dental Patients

At Dentistry by Dr. David, ozone is used as part of, or an adjunct to, many treatments.

1. Decay Prevention: Prior to applying dental sealants on children (with the parent’s approval for the additional treatment) ozone can be applied to the teeth to eliminate the presence of any bacteria that possibly could create a cavity underneath the sealants.
2. Teeth Hypersensivity: Applying ozone can strengthen enamel and reduce inflammation, easing tooth sensitivity and making daily activities more enjoyable.
3. Root Canal: Utilizing the gas during treatment appears to increase the probability of obtaining a successful root canal.
4. Periodontal (Gum Disease): Ozonated water, oil, and gas are used in combination in the office and at home to kill the bacteria responsible for gum disease.
5. Infections of the jaw: Failed root canals, cavitations (small areas of dead bone), or even failed implants can often be healed by injecting ozone into the area. Tooth extractions and jaw surgeries may well be avoided!

Results: See How Ozone Eliminates Bacteria

During a visit we can very easily and quickly provide our patients with the actual “real time” results from an ozone treatment to let them see how their overall oral health benefitted from the treatment. Using a phase contrast microscope we can quickly swab the patient’s mouth to show each patient the “current state” of their mouth on the screen in front of them.
