PRF (Platelet
Rich Fibrin)
PRF Injections For a Faster Healing Process
What is Platelet Rich Fibrin (“PRF”)
Platelet Rich Fibrin (“PRF”) treatment is a dental procedure that we have been doing for several years in our office where a small amount of your blood is drawn and then processed to extract a concentrated form of platelets and growth factors. This “PRF” is then applied to the surgical site, such as after a tooth extraction or during gum surgery, to promote faster healing, reduce bleeding, and enhance tissue regeneration. It’s like giving your body a natural boost to help it heal quicker and better after dental procedures!
How is Platelet Rich Fibrin (“PRF”) Performed?
Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) treatment for our dental patients involves a simple process. First, a small amount of your blood is drawn, usually from your arm by our certified phlebotomists. This blood is then centrifuged to separate the platelets and growth factors from other blood components. The resulting PRF, a concentrated mixture, is then applied directly to the surgical site, like after a tooth extraction or gum surgery. This helps speed up healing, reduce bleeding, and improve tissue regeneration in the mouth. It’s a natural and effective way to enhance recovery after dental procedures.
How Does Platelet Rich Fibrin (“PRF”) Promote Healing?
In your body platelets play an important role in the healing process. This is because they contain growth factors, cytokines, and other bioactive molecules that “kick-start” and accelerate tissue repair. Using PRF enables our Dental Team to enhance the body’s own natural healing response by utilizing the concentrated platelets obtained through the PRF procedure in our Bolton office.
PRF Improves Wound Healing Post Dental Procedures
PRF promotes improved wound healing in dental procedures, and we can use it in our office for such procedures as tooth extractions, dental implant placement, and periodontal surgeries (yes, we have a periodontist!). The growth proteins released by platelets stimulate the formation of new blood vessels, enhance cell migration, and accelerate the production of new collagen to help our patients heal faster.
PRF Promotes Bone and Soft Tissue Regeneration
One of the significant benefits that PRF treatment provides is its ability to promote bone and soft tissue regeneration. In dental implant procedures, PRF can be applied to the surgical site, enhancing bone density, and improving implant integration. PRF can also be used to treat gum recession because it helps accelerate the regeneration of gum tissue and even to enhance the aesthetics of your smile by replacing gum tissue that has receded!
