Phase
Contrast Microscopy
Advanced Periodontal Diagnosis with Phase Contrast Microscopy
We use Phase Contrast Microscopy to provide our dental staff with a superior diagnostic tool to visualize the bacteria and other organisms that have colonized around your teeth. This dental technology provides us with a detailed understanding of your periodontal health and identifies potential risk factors.
Enhancing Oral Health with Phase Contrast Microscopy and Ozone Therapy
The phase contrast microscope is a type of optical microscope that allows our staff take a small sample of your dental biofilm (plaque) and put it on a glass slide that we put under the microscope to survey the kinds of microbes present in your mouth. While we can’t identify specific species, we can get a quick view of your mouth’s overall bacterial load. We can also identify types of microbes and cells to evaluate your risk of various oral health problems. We can do this pre-ozone therapy to see your current state and then apply ozone and allow you to see how we have dramatically reduced the microbes present in your mouth!
While some patients may not exhibit signs of periodontal disease despite the presence of harmful bacteria, it doesn’t guarantee that these bacteria won’t become problematic in the future. Such individuals may currently be able to combat the harmful microorganisms, but they remain at risk of developing the disease in the future or when their immunity weakens.
